This was the latest in a series of conversations Heitkamp and her staff have had with North Dakotans about immigration to ensure our state is well-represented in the debate. “The input I received today from North Dakotans was very helpful. I will take the information back to Washington and make sure our state’s voice is heard during this critical discussion,” said Heitkamp. “It is a positive sign the bill currently before the Senate was approved by the Judiciary Committee on a bipartisan vote. It could still undergo significant changes as it is considered in the full Senate, which could undermine the bipartisan efforts for reform. I will continue to evaluate the bill and any amendments to determine the potential impact on North Dakota and to ensure that the Northern Border retains adequate resources to protect our citizens and to facilitate the free-flow of trade between Canada and North Dakota.” Today’s discussion, which took place at Microsoft, was attended by a wide-range of North Dakotans, including Don Morton, Microsoft Fargo Site Leader; Dean Bresciani, North Dakota State University President; Andy Peterson, North Dakota Chamber of Commerce President and CEO; John Vastag, Sanford Director of Legislative Affairs; Jim Gartin, Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation President; Dr. Tim Mahoney, Essentia Health Physician; Jim Sweeney, Fargo Jet Center President; Dr. Philip Boudjouk, North Dakota State University Vice President for Research; and Tom Shorma, WCCO Belting, Inc. President and CEO. -END- | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
