These turbines will help to reduce flaring and ensure we’re using natural gas efficiently,” said Hoeven. “This project is a good example of how new energy technologies enable us to produce more energy, with better environmental stewardship. The next generation of energy technology is happening right here in North Dakota.” As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Hoeven worked to secure funding for Fossil Energy Research and Development programs at DOE and pressed DOE to fund projects and award grants to improve the efficiency of gas turbines. “Congratulations to UND on receiving this extremely competitive grant to work on advanced energy research here in North Dakota,” said Heitkamp, who has been a vocal advocate for investments in all forms of energy. “This grant shows, yet again, that North Dakota is a national leader when it comes to energy.  And with funding like this to help our state continue its research, our energy technologies will only continue to grow.” “UND continues to be on the cutting edge of energy research and technology and has earned the support of our federal government and the industries they support. As a public service commissioner I saw firsthand how their research has made North Dakota an international leader in production and innovation, showing the way to energy security that enhances the economy and protects the environment,” said Cramer.  The University of North Dakota will receive $499,996 to develop turbine cooling technologies and is one of 10 universities across the U.S. selected to develop technologies necessary to produce reliable, clean and cost effective advanced gas turbines fueled by coal-derived hydrogen, syngas and natural gas. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
