U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp announced eight new interns in her Washington, D.C. and North Dakota offices. Internships provide students and recent graduates with real, on-the-job skills that help them learn about the legislative process and serve North Dakota, said Heitkamp. All young folks deserve to be able to grasp opportunities that come their way, but unfortunately some students aren't able to afford to take internships that don't offer stipends. As the daughter of a school cook and seasonal construction worker, I understand the importance of working hard, but also what it means to struggle to get by. I want every North Dakota student to have every opportunity and that's why I want to make it so students from any economic background are able to intern in my offices. I encourage more North Dakota students to apply for internships in my offices in North Dakota or in our nation's capital.
