https://www.heitkamp.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ContentRecord_id=C4C875D1-563C-4502-8039-86A7DCB107CB Heitkamp Announces Federal Support for Rural Eclectic Coops 2017-11-02 2017 2017-11 Democrat House ND Heidi Heitkamp H001069 www.heitkamp.senate.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp announced two federal loans totaling $46 million to Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative and Cass County Electric Cooperative to support rural electric infrastructure improvements. “Our electric cooperatives help power our state so families across North Dakota, including rural communities, can heat their homes and keep their lights on,” said Heitkamp. “These federal funds will help electric cooperatives make needed improvements to our electrical system so they can continue to deliver safe and reliable energy to North Dakotans' homes and businesses so we can continue to push our economy forward, power our homes, and keep farms running." The federal funds are distributed as follows: Cass County Electri Cooperative: $25,000,000 in federal loans to build 617 new miles of electrical infrastructure as well as to improve 185 miles of line. Over $4.9 million of these federal funds will be used to further smart grid projects. North Dakota counties which will benefit from this federal support include Dickey, Barnes, Sargent, Stutsman, Richland, LaMoure, Cass, Ransom, Steele, and Traill. Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative: $21,000,000 in federal loans to build 146 new miles of electrical infrastructure as well as to improve 187 miles of line. Over $2.5 million of these federal funds will be used to further smart grid projects. North Dakota counties which will benefit from this federal support include Ransom, Stutsman, LaMoure, Sargent, Logan, McIntosh, Richland, and Dickey. These federal funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development’s Electric Infrastructure Loan and Loan Guarantee Program that supports infrastructure improvements to rural communities. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
