Today’s $6.5 million dollars in federal funding for Minot International Airport is important, the delegation said. It triggers the state match and brings funding to date up to $25 million, more than half the cost of the $41 million project. It’s also important because it enables construction on the terminal to begin this fall, with a projected completion date of November 2015. The delegation said they will continue to push for additional federal funding. Hoeven, Heitkamp and representatives from Cramer’s office this spring met with Federal Aviation Administrator Michael Huerta to press for the North Dakota airport projects, including the Minot project, which is needed to meet the needs of the growing city and region. Federal funding was extremely short, but the delegation worked to secure the resources in time to begin construction this year. Huerta called the delegation today to notify them of the award. “This funding statewide will help provide much needed infrastructure at airports across North Dakota to keep up with the growing economy and population of our state,” the delegation said. “Investing in our state’s transportation infrastructure is important and these grants will help fund a new terminal at Minot Airport, a new airport in Bowman County, and improvements to runways, taxiways, and other airport infrastructure across North Dakota. Our airports are serving a record number of passengers each year. We’re working to ensure that we build and maintain our infrastructure to meet growing needs and preserve our high quality of life in North Dakota.” The following grants were awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration: Minot International Airport is being awarded $6.5 million for construction of a new terminal. This funding will allow construction to begin on the project immediately. Bowman County Airport Authority is being awarded a $4.6 million grant to help construct a new airport to help meet aviation demand in the oil patch. The funding will be used to pave the new 5,700-foot runway and a connecting taxiway and apron Bismarck Municipal Airport will receive almost $2.1 million to rehabilitate taxiways and expand the access road to improve access to the airport hangar area and $200,000 for assessments on the proposed general aviation apron expansion. Dickinson-Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport will receive almost $1.7 million for acquisition of easements to improve approach protection, to construct a new equipment building, design the expansion of the general aviation apron and the first phase of a runway extension project and $200,000 to update the existing master plan to identify future airport needs. Oakes Municipal Airport will receive over $1.5 million to rehabilitate the runway, taxiway and the apron.  Tioga Municipal Airport Authority will receive $300,000 to update the master plan to identify future airport needs and to conduct runway end survey evaluation to make the airport more accessible to pilots. Watford City Municipal Airport will receive $150,000 for the final design phase of a drainage plan, to rehabilitate the existing apron pavement. Casselton Regional Airport Authority will receive $117,000 to rehabilitate the apron, the runway and the taxiway. Cavalier Municipal Airport will receive $116,422 to rehabilitate the runway, taxiway and the apron asphalt. Linton Municipal Airport will receive $29,700 to repair cracks and seal portions of its runway, apron and taxiway. The grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation with funds appropriated by Congress. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
