Earlier this year, Fargo experienced flooding conditions due to heavy snowpack and a very late snow melt. While the river crested lower than expected, the city still had to mount a costly flood prevention effort.  The delegation worked to help defray the costs in support of the state’s request. “We were all on the ground and saw firsthand Fargo officials and citizens come together to fight the high waters this spring,” the delegation said. “As a delegation, we worked together to see that Fargo would qualify for federal funding to help share the costs that went along with such a quick and robust emergency response. And we worked to make sure the city would be able to receive the money in a timely manner.” The funding from the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today is intended to help defray part of the expenses Fargo incurred this spring. Before, during, and after the flood, Fargo had a variety of expenses, including equipment; sand bag operations; police traffic control and security; and the transportation of volunteers. In May, the delegation wrote to President Barack Obama to press for approval of the state’s request for an emergency declaration. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
