Secretary Ferguson reached out to Heitkamp after the Caucus launched last month. “Secretary Ferguson plays a major role in the activities that have every day impacts in North Dakota’s defense communities,” said Heitkamp. “We had a good discussion about our military installations in Minot, Grand Forks, and Fargo, and what we can do to better support the defense communities.”   Ferguson, is the Acting Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Logistics. The Defense Communities Caucus gives voice to the unique issues facing America’s defense communities, while creating and strengthening partnerships between the private sector, military installations and their communities. The Caucus works to: develop strategies to ensure service members feel part of their communities; highlight and further develop transition assistance programs for returning and transitioning service members; build economic development strategies; and stay at the forefront of base redevelopment issues.                                                                                    -END- 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
