U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today announced at total of more than $1.4 million in federal funding to support research at the University of North Dakota (UND) and North Dakota State University (NDSU). One of the best things we can do as a country is invest in our children and students, said Heitkamp. They are the key to future progress and growth in our state, across our country and around the world. These funds will assist North Dakota's universities as they implore pressing research questions, while also making sure our students learn the fundamentals and complexities of scientific research that will serve them well for years to come. The funds are authorized by the National Science Foundation and are distributed as follows: NDSU - $890,800. These funds will support opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students to conduct biophysical and biochemical research through the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. It will also provide opportunities for high school teachers, such as professional development. UND - $372,450. The funds will support the Open Orbiter program, which is a student-led initiative through the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences that gives students a hands-on experience researching and designing critical software and hardware systems in satellite space missions. NDSU - $183,000.
