Joining North Dakota officials as well as Cirrus manufacturing workers and leaders at Grand Forks Airport, Heitkamp – long a champion of manufacturing and general aviation– spoke about the need to build on today’s successful milestone by promoting opportunities that help these industries thrive and support North Dakota workers who enable these businesses to run. “Today’s delivery is a milestone in aviation history – and it’s also a significant step forward for Cirrus and the manufacturing community here in Grand Forks,” said Heitkamp. “North Dakota has been leading the charge in turning innovative ideas into real jobs, opportunity, and cutting-edge technologies – and by delivering the world’s first single-engine personal jet, we’re making history, too. In the U.S. Senate, I’ve been working to encourage ideas that yield success for American businesses and workers, particularly for those in manufacturing and aviation, by fighting to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank – which helps support and grow jobs in these industries. Just as companies like Cirrus are committed to producing American-made components in Grand Forks, I’ll keep pushing leaders in Congress to promote and invest in policies that keep and grow jobs here at home.” Long a champion of such industries to spur innovation, job creation, and infrastructure building, Heitkamp has spearheaded efforts in the U.S. Senate to reauthorize and promote a working Export-Import Bank – an independent federal government agency and the official export credit agency of the United States. In North Dakota alone, the Export-Import Bank has supported $42 million in exports since 2011, as well as 633 jobs statewide through loans, loan guarantees, and insurance to facilitate overseas sales. Heitkamp is fighting to make sure the agency is able to fully function so it can keep supporting American businesses and workers, which it has been unable to do for about a year because there haven’t been enough members on the Export-Import Bank Board.
