The funding will help provide health services to 2,522 new patients, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. “Maintaining the best quality health care in rural communities is critical if we’re going to keep North Dakota strong for years to come,” said Heitkamp. “In the U.S. Senate, standing up for rural America is one of my top priorities – and this funding is a critical step in supporting rural health care. The federal funds will help make it easier for folks in Turtle Lake and the surrounding community to access health care, overcoming geographic and economic barriers that too often make it harder for folks in rural areas to get the services they need.” The $692,000 in federal funding supporting the center in Turtle Lake was among $50 million in funding awarded to 75 health centers in 23 states, Puerto Rico and the Federated State of Micronesia. The purpose of the funding is to support new service delivery sites, and to provide comprehensive primary health care services to underserved and vulnerable populations. Health centers are community-based organizations that deliver comprehensive high-quality primary health care services.
