U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today announced more than $1 million in federal funding to acquire and demolish nine flood prone residential structures in Cass County. They say the best offense, is a good defense. And that is the approach we need to take with flood prevention and control in the Red River Valley, said Heitkamp. We must work together and invest in projects to proactively protect North Dakotans. Cass County has been working diligently to better prepare and plan for the unforeseeable reach of the Sheyenne River, and these funds will help the county continue its great work. These funds will cover 75 percent of the cost to remove nine at-risk residences from the Special Flood Hazard Area. Acquiring and demolishing the residences will also increase deed restricted green space in the area and reduce public and private costs for flood response.
