During Native American Heritage Month, U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today announced at total of $285,000 in federal funding for Fort Berthold Community College in New Town and United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) in Bismarck to support research projects aimed to address community, reservation or regional programs. These federal funds are authorized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Tribal Colleges Research Grants Program and were made possible by the 2014 Farm Bill. Heitkamp played a key role in writing, negotiating and passing the Farm Bill in the U.S. Senate and fought hard to make sure there were continued investments in the future of our agriculture industry through research and innovation. Agriculture remains one of North Dakotas top industries and is a way of life for the countless farmers and ranchers who work hard to help feed the world, said Heitkamp. These federal funds will help make sure we continue to stay on the cutting edge of agriculture strategies and practices and address regional and community problems in new and innovative ways. In addition, these federal funds will provide UTTC and Fort Berthold Community College with the support they need to provide critical learning opportunities and hands on education for Native American students. These federal funds are distributed as follows: Fort Berthold Community College in New Town - $220,000. United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck - $65,000. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
