Secure housing is essential to making sure folks are safe. The federal funding announced today will help families in need find permanent housing solutions as well as help with transitional housing services when families face emergency situations.” These federal funds are distributed as follows: Abused Adult Resource Center - $83,664 Burleigh County Housing Authority – $209,150 Community Violence Intervention Center Inc. - $93,928 Fargo Housing and Redevelopment Authority - $389,883 Prairie Heights Apartments, Grand Lodge of North Dakota, I.O.O.F - $46,675 North Dakota Coalition for Homeless People, Inc. - $133,572 North Dakota Department of Commerce - $304,416 Prairie Harvest Mental Health Supportive Housing Program - $89,727 St. Joseph's Social Care and Thrift Store – $15,277 Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center– $37,599 YWCA Minot Center of Hope and Emergency Shelter - $30,000 YWCA Cass Clay - $345,525 This federal funding is made available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care (CoC) Program. The CoC Program provides federal funding to state and local governments as well as non-profits that work to end homelessness and help families who are in need of safe and affordable housing. Heitkamp has been a steadfast advocate for affordable housing in North Dakota, whether it’s pushing for more affordable housing in western North Dakota when prices skyrocketed or in Indian Country dealing with the chronic housing problems. Heitkamp recently met with staff and toured St. Joseph’s Social Care and Thrift in Grand Forks that provide transitional services for families in need as well as permanent housing for those with disabilities. In August, Heitkamp delivered the keynote address at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s first Great Plains regional Indian Housing conference that aimed to leverage public-private partnerships to provide long-term strategies that will boost housing opportunities across Indian Country.
