Heitkamp nominated Jayce Moor from Crary, Olivia Nellermoe from West Fargo, Rose Gasper from Bismarck, and David Godfrey and Sophia Maliscke both from Fargo. “Our nation’s military academies train and equip the next generation to lead the United States,” said Heitkamp. “David, Jayce, Olivia, Rose, and Sophia have all demonstrated a deep sense of patriotism through their determination and ambition and I know they will uphold these values as they serve North Dakota and our nation.” Members of Congress are able to nominate students to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York; the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York; and the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Below are further details on the students Heitkamp has nominated: David Godfrey – Principal Nomination to the United States Air Force Academy Godfrey, who is originally from Fargo, is currently attending the United States Air Force Preparatory School in Colorado. He is active in the prep-school’s Drill Team, Color Guard, and Rifle Team. He plays basketball and is the school’s football team manager. Godfrey was also involved in the Civil Air Patrol. Jayce Moor – Principal Nomination to the United States Naval Academy Moor, who is from Crary, attends Lakota High School and is ranked second in his class. He is very involved in his school’s activities through Choir, Close-Up, Drama, Future Business Leaders of America, FFA, Students Against Destructive Decisions, Student Council, and his school’s year book. He has demonstrated his athletic abilities in football, track, and wrestling. Moor has also participated in Academic Challenge, Math Counts, Science Fairs, a Regional Spelling Bee, International Music Camp, and the Perkin Art Show. Olivia Nellermoe – Principal Nomination to the United States Air Force Academy Nellermoe, who is from West Fargo, is in her senior year at Sheyenne High School. She is active in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) as the Company Commander. She is also the president of the West Fargo Police Explorers, JROTC Volleyball Captain, and a Commissioned Leadership Officer in the Civil Air Patrol. Nellermoe also ran in the Fargo Marathon relay. Rose Gasper – Principal Nomination to the United States Naval Academy Gasper, who is from Bismarck, attends Century High School, is ranked first in her class and is involved in her school’s numerous academic activities, including the National Honors Society, Latin Club, and Prom Committee. She is also a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant. Gasper is also team captain of her hockey team and plays and coaches youth soccer. She is dedicated to her community as a Salvation Army Holiday Bell Ringer and volunteers at St. Gabriel’s nursing home. Sophia Maliscke – Principal Nomination to the United States Military Academy Maliscke, who is from Fargo, currently attends South High School and is involved in Technical Theatre, Orchestra, Cantare, Choir, Speech, and is president of her Drama Club. She also plays softball and attended the State Music competition.
