The funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and will be used to provide cooperatives with technical assistance so they can better service rural communities. “In North Dakota, we know that the cooperative model can be a recipe for success – especially in rural communities,” said Heitkamp. “This federal funding will provide our rural cooperatives with an added boost to help create jobs and opportunity throughout our state’s more rural areas. From Beulah and Hazen to Bowdon and Cavalier, this funding will provide the training and technical assistance our rural cooperatives need.” Specifically, the funds will help develop cooperative and community-owned child care facilities in Hazen and Beulah, support local food initiatives by working with Bowdon and Cavalier meat processing plants, and provide technical assistance for cooperative housing in Wahpeton. USDA’s Rural Cooperative Development Grant program provided the funding. Projects across 22 states are receiving a total of $5.8 million through the program. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
