U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today addressed about 60 new Americans as they took the Naturalization Oath of Allegiance to the United States and became U.S. citizens. Im incredibly proud to congratulate our newest U.S. citizens. This is a day they and their families will always remember, said Heitkamp. We are truly a nation of immigrants as folks have journeyed here for generations, seeking better and more prosperous lives for themselves and their families. This country is one of tremendous opportunity, where the daughter of a school cook and seasonal construction worker can serve her country and state as a United States Senator. These newest citizens also understand the opportunities this country affords, and through hard work they are standing here today. Im privileged to welcome them as fellow U.S. citizens. The naturalization ceremonies occurred at the Quentin N. Burdick Federal Courthouse in Fargo with Chief Magistrate Judge Karen K. Klein presiding. To qualify for naturalization, applicants must have established permanent residency in the United States for at least five years, pass an English language test, and pass a civics test. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
