North Dakotas rural communities play an important role in supporting our states economy, families, and way of life, said Heitkamp. Having grown up in Mantador a town of just 90 people I have seen firsthand the positive impact that targeted investments can make in rural communities. These funds will help strengthen rural development efforts, providing small towns and rural areas across our state with an opportunity to thrive. The funds will be distributed as follows: Common Enterprise Development Corporation $200,000. The funds will be used to assist entrepreneurs and cooperative or mutually-owned businesses in rural communities and Native American tribes in North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota. North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives $200,000. The funds will be used to assist cooperatives and mutually-owned businesses in rural North Dakota. The funds are made available through U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Developments Rural Cooperative Development Grant Program. USDA Rural Development is overseen by Chairwoman Heitkamps Subcommittee. The 2014 Farm Bill, which Heitkampplayed a leading role in crafting, places a strong emphasis on supporting rural development projects. The bill authorizes programs that help upgrade and improve rural water systems, invests in expanding rural high-speed Internet, funds loans to consumers to improve energy efficiency through the new Rural Energy Savings Program, and reauthorizes several other existing programs that are critical to supporting economic and community development in rural America. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
