U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee Subcommittee on Jobs, Rural Economic Growth and Energy Innovation, today announced nearly $2.1 million in federal support for improvements to water systems in rural North Dakota communities. All communities across North Dakota need access to clean and safe water, and we should make no exception in our states rural areas, said Heitkamp. These funds, along with federal support I announced in August for the City of New England, are a much-needed step in rural development efforts an issue I understand well as Chairwoman of the Senate Subcommittee overseeing rural development across the country. I will continue to push for investments and support to help build out this kind of infrastructure because its critical to the health, safety, and success of our rural communities. The funds will be distributed as follows: Standing Rock Sioux Tribe $770,750 grant. The funds will be used to construct an environmentally-safe wastewater treatment system for the Cannonball community. City of Finley $594,000 loan and $461,000 grant. The funds will be used to remove the existing 50,000-gallon water tower and replace it with a 100,000-gallon water tower. City of Linton $140,000 loan and $113,000 grant. The funds will be used to help make improvements to the citys water system. The funds are made available by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Water and Environmental Program, through the Rural Utilities Service. USDA Rural Development is overseen by Chairwoman Heitkamps Subcommittee. In August, Heitkamp announced nearly $5 million in federal support for water system improvements in New England. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
