These federal loans will be used to improve efficiency, upgrade and maintain distribution lines, and make investments into more reliable technology. In North Dakota, we have confidence that when we flip the switch or turn the thermostat that the lights will turn on and the heat or air conditioning will kick-in. That confidence stems from the great trust we have in our rural electric co-ops and the job that they do every day to make sure we dont have to worry about the reliability of our electricity, said Heitkamp. And we must continue to make sure that we invest in the continued maintenance, expansion, and modernization of our transmission lines and electrical grid in North Dakota which is what these funds will help do. These federal loans are made available through the United States Department of Agriculture-Rural Development Rural Utilities Service and will be distributed as follows: North Central Electric Co-op - $30 million in federal loans will be made available with over $800,000 reserved for smart grid technology. Burke-Divide Electric Co-op - $27 million in federals loans will be made available with over $2 million reserved for smart grid technology. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
