U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, the top Democrat on the U.S. Senate on Agriculture Subcommittee on rural Development and Energy, today announced a total of nearly $125,000 in federal funds to support rural development projects at Golden Growers Cooperative in West Fargo, Aspen Aquaponics, and Meadowlark Granary both in Bottineau. Agriculture is a way of life for so many folks in North Dakota, said Heitkamp. It is critical that we invest in rural communities so that North Dakota can continue to thrive economically. These federal funds will expand value-added opportunities for our producers and help create jobs in North Dakota. Through my role to lead the Senate subcommittee that oversees rural development, Ill continue to push for strong investments and needed resources and support that will strengthen rural communities in North Dakota and across the country. These federal funds come after Heitkamp successfully urged the U.S. Department of Agriculture in July to made needed federal investments in North Dakotas rural development and her support of federal funding to help support Golden Growers Cooperative. The following federal funds are authorized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and are distributed as follows: Golden Growers Cooperative in West Fargo - $75,000. These federal funds will be used to conduct a feasibility study of value-added products from processing corn grain, including food-grade gluten-free flour, specialty food additives from corn including colorants, low calorie sweeteners, higher-value animal feed products and biochemical feedstocks. Aspen Aquaponics in Bottineau - $25,182. These federal funds will be used to support the retail and wholesale packaged vegetables and herbs. Meadowlark Granary in Bottineau- $24,000. These federal funds will be used to support the expand baking and milling capacity and the marketing of local food products, including bread products made from hard red spring wheat. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
