Specifically, Heller's provisions are aimed at helping Nevada's veterans find jobs, promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in Nevada's schools, and providing support to pregnant women and their infants. This marks the first time in more than a decade that Congress, including the U.S. Senate, has passed these two essential funding bills Department of Defense and Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies on time and through regular order. The conference agreement now goes to the President's desk for his signature. Today marks a momentous accomplishment for Congress as we continue to get the job done on time, in regular order, said Heller. In addition to providing the largest pay raise for our troops in nearly a decade and increasing funding to address the opioid epidemic, I was proud to see that the conference agreement includes three of my provisions. Whether it's ensuring our nation's veterans have theresourcesthey need to succeed, promoting STEM programs in schools throughout our state, or supporting mothers and their newborn children, I will continue to advance commonsense policies to help communities across the state of Nevada. As the fifth most bipartisan senator in the U.S. Senate, I am proud to have worked on both sides of the aisle to send this agreement to the President's desk. Heller, along with his colleague U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT), secured a provision to ensure up to $3.5 million is available to carry out a pilot program on apprenticeships for service members transitioning to civilian life. Heller also worked with U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) to require the Department of Education to provide a report on how the agency is coordinating with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) to promote STEM programs that benefit pre-kindergarden-12 students. Additionally, Heller worked with U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) to author a provision that will strengthen the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) efforts to leverage birth defects surveillance systems to improve its ability to monitor the occurrence of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS).Recently, seven of Heller's bills aimed at combating Nevada's opioid epidemic passed the U.S. Senate, including legislation that would expand access to treatment for pregnant women who have a substance abuse disorder and newborns who are suffering from withdrawal. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
