U.S. Senators Dean Heller (R-NV) and Harry Reid (D-NV) along with Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) introduced the legislation in May, which helps secure job-creation opportunities in one of Nevada’s hardest hit areas. “Once again, stakeholders at every level were able to come together to achieve three critical needs for the Las Vegas Valley: conservation, economic development, and recreational opportunities. By working out our differences we were able to not only protect unique places but also plan for critical infrastructure needed in the area. The Silver State is desperate for job creation. I am pleased to work with Senator Reid as well as members of the Committee on this important legislation,” said Senator Dean Heller. The Las Vegas Valley Public Land and Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument Act of 2013 will: Establish the Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument. Secure opportunities for job creation and future growth in the Las Vegas Valley. Provide for the development of an off-highway vehicle recreation area in the Nellis Dunes. Convey land to the Nevada System of Higher Education to expand education opportunities for Nevadans. Ensure availability of land for renewable energy transmission. Conveys land to the Clark County Reclamation District for a water treatment facility, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for construction of an access road, and Clark County for flood control purposes near the future Ivanpah Airport. Expands the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area by approximately 1,700 acres.  ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
