S.Res.639 recognizes the achievements and goals of the 492 Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) in the United States, was adopted unanimously by the full Senate on September 18, 2018. I am proud to recognize the four outstanding Hispanic-Serving Institutions in Nevada, as well the hundreds of institutions across the nation through our resolution passed by the U.S. Senate, said Heller. It is critical that we continue to honor the contributions of institutions like these, who work to educate diverse communities and help instill the importance of higher learning. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, I welcome the U.S. Senate's passage of our resolution to distinguish the accomplishments of Hispanic-Serving Institutions. Defined as degree-granting institutions where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes of no less than 25% of the total enrollment, HSIs play a critical role in educating Hispanic youth and improving the communities in which they are located. HSIs are located in 21 states and Puerto Rico with emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions located in 33 States and the District of Columbia. Additional cosponsors of this resolution are Senators: John Cornyn (R-TX), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Kamala Harris (D-CA), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Patty Murray (D-WA), Bill Nelson (D- FL), Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Bernie Sanders (D-VT). ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
