Hirono H001042 www.hirono.senate.gov hirono https://www.hirono.senate.gov/news/press-releases scraper WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senators Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) and U.S. Representatives Ed Case (D-HI) and Jill Tokuda (D-HI) released the following statement on President Joe Biden’s new supplemental appropriations request, which includes funding for disaster recovery on Maui and across the country. “Almost a year since the devastating fires on Maui, the people of Lahaina still need help. Their lives are nowhere near back to normal and it will take sustained support from the federal government to get them fully back on their feet. President Biden’s new supplemental appropriations request is an important and necessary investment in them and disaster survivors across the country. Now Congress needs to pass this funding quickly and get people the help they urgently need.” President Biden’s new request for disaster response funding includes a $4 billion increase from the request made last October. Among other things, this $4 billion request includes an additional $700 million for the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program, which will continue to support Maui—and other states impacted by disasters—in its recovery efforts following the wildfires last August. ### 1 2026-03-30T01:40:41Z 2026-04-07T21:11:47Z
