Hirono led a bipartisan coalition in introducing a resolution marking the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. “On this solemn anniversary we honor not only those who lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor, but also those who sacrificed so much in the years that followed during World War II,” said Senator Hirono. “While we will always remember what happened 75 years ago, today is also an opportunity to reflect on the power of reconciliation, the strength of our alliance with Japan, and the importance of remaining engaged in the Asia-Pacific.” The resolution was cosponsored by 30 Senators: Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Susan Collins (R-ME), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Angus King (I-ME), Mark Kirk (R-IL), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Ed Markey (D-MA), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Christopher Murphy (D-CT), Patty Murray (D-WA), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Gary Peters (D-MI), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), John Thune (R-SD), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Mark Warner (D-VA), and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). Senator Hirono’s resolution pays tribute to the thousands service members and civilians killed in the attack, and honors all American World War II service members.
