The funding for 2015 announced today comes through three grant programs: State Traffic Safety Information System Improvement Grants, Occupant Protection Grants and Impaired Driving Countermeasure Grants programs. All were awarded by the DOT's National Highway Safety Administration. North Dakota is a growing state, in terms of both people and economic activity, Hoeven said. As traffic on our roads increases, we need to invest in important infrastructure and measures to make sure our communities remain safe. These grants will help to improve occupant safety, data collection and detection of impaired and distracted drivers. The three programs were authorized as part of Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21), a comprehensive transportation bill. Hoeven was a member of the joint Senate-House conference committee responsible for reconciling the House and Senate versions of the bill, which passed the Senate in June 2012. As a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committees, Hoeven continues working to support infrastructure and public safety investment in North Dakota.
