Details of the funds are as follows: North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives $200,000 grant The funds will be used for several projects including working with the Center for Rural Health at the University of North Dakota to identify opportunities for rural home care cooperatives, supporting a meat processing plant in Pettibone and developing food purchasing cooperatives in rural areas. City of New Salem $1,253,000 loan The funds will be used to replace streets in conjunction with other work to replace the city's water and sewage infrastructure, for which New Salem has received additional Rural Development grant and loan funding. Today's funding will help empower rural residents and businesses by leveraging cooperative strength to secure improved health care and nutritional opportunities, Hoeven said.
