Senator John Hoeven today visited Liberty Elementary School in Bismarck to donate 165 books for the new school's library. The senator presented the books, which include both new and classic titles in a range of reading levels, and read to the students at an assembly. Hoeven's office secured the books through the Surplus Books Program of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. We hope these books help fill the shelves of Liberty Elementary School's library and instill a love for reading in these students, said Hoeven. Good literacy skills are fundamental for our students and provide a strong foundation for success now and into the future. As the ranking member of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Hoeven oversees funding for the Library of Congress. The Library of Congress' Surplus Books Program makes volumes available for donation to educational institutions, nonprofit tax-exempt organizations and public agencies of local and state governments or other federal agencies.
