Senator John Hoeven issued the following statement on the passing of former North Dakota State Senator Russell Thane and his wife Betty.Russell Thane represented the 25th district in the North Dakota Senate from 1971 to 2006. We send our sincere condolences to the Thane family on the passing of Russell and Betty Thane. Russ and Betty, who were married for 68 years, spent their lives in service to our state and nation. They met while Russ was serving in the U.S. Air Force, and further, Russ served our state for more than 35 years as a member of the North Dakota State Legislature. When I was governor, Senator Thane was a key partner in helping to pass important education legislation, one of many accomplishments during his long tenure.
