Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, praised final passage of the conference report for the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2020. This legislation provides necessary authorities and policies for the Department of Defense and critical national security programs within the Department of Energy. This year's legislation provides for a total of $738 billion in base discretionary funding, as well as $5.3 billion in emergency disaster recovery funding. In addition to supporting implementation of the National Defense Strategy, the conference report includes landmark reforms for military privatized housing, establishes a U.S. Space Force and ensures our troops receive their largest pay raise in a decade. Providing for the common defense is the most important thing Congress does each year it affects each and every American, Inhofe said. That's why Congress has passed a defense authorization bill for 58 years in a row, and that's why we continued that today with a strong, bipartisan vote. Today's Senate vote sends a message to America's military families: we are committed to you. We honor your sacrifice. We're going to give you the training, equipment and weapons, and resources you need to do your job well and come home safely. This vote, and this conference report, also send a strong message to our allies and our adversaries, especially China and Russia. America is the leader of the free world in large part because we are able to defend our values. The NDAA makes sure we keep it that way. By revitalizing American power, we can achieve our vision of a safe, prosperous and free world the kind of world we want our kids and grandkids to inherit. The Senate passed the conference report by a vote 86-8. The FY 2020 NDAA now heads to the President's desk for his signature. Click here to watch Sen. Inhofe's floor remarks on the Conference Report.
