Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), today praised the passage H.R. 6297, the Iran Sanctions Extension Act. The bill renews current non-nuclear sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran for another ten years. The Legislation passed the Senate by a vote of  99-0 and the House of Representatives by a vote of 419-1. “In failing to adhere to United Nations Security Council Resolutions, Iran has repeatedly demonstrated it cannot be trusted,” Inhofe said. “Iran has not moderated its conduct since the implementation of the Iran Deal. Since agreeing to the Iran Deal in July 2015, Iran has harassed our Navy in international waters, illegally detained U.S. sailors, fired missiles within a mile of U.S. and coalition ships in the Strait of Hormuz, tested ballistic missiles, allowed Russian combat aircraft to operate from Iran, continued to support Hamas and Hezbollah, denounced Israel’s right to exist, and continued to chant 'Death to America.' Passing the Iran Sanctions Extension Act is a clear signal to Iran that their actions will not be tolerated.” The Iran Sanctions Act, the authority to impose sanctions on Iran, expires on December 31, 2016. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), or Iran Deal, is an international agreement reached in Vienna on July 14, 2015, between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, and the United States) to limit the nuclear program of Iran. Inhofe voted against this agreement on Sept. 10, 2015.    ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
