Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), today made the following statement after voting against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) of 2013 (S.815), which passed the Senate by a vote of 64-32: "The Employment Non-Discrimination Act infringes on a matter best left to the states," said Inhofe. "Existing laws across the nation already provide protection for unjust workplace discrimination. This legislation only exposes employers to excessive, costly litigation for the statue's vague requirements on employers. What Congress should be focusing on right now is our stagnant economy and that starts by getting the federal government out of the way so businesses can competitively grow and innovate." Inhofe voted in favor of amendment #2013 sponsored by Sen. Pat Toomey (R - Pa.) to safeguard religious freedom and exempt institutions with faith-based affiliations from the ENDA. The amendment failed by a vote of 43 – 55. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
