Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, made the following statement after President Trump authorized the sale of lethal defensive weapons to Ukraine. Sen. Inhofe sent a letter to President Trump in November urging him to provide lethal aid to Ukraine. It is the right call to provide defensive lethal aid to Ukraine. Russia has continued to escalate their dangerous and illegal aggression in Ukraine, and President Trumps bold action will be a decisive show of strength and a message of support to our allies. This support is critical in supporting Ukraine as they defend themselves and their democratic values against further encroachment and annexation by Russian forces, Inhofe said. The Oklahoma National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is proud to have just completed a year in Ukraine. During that time, we were able to provide support to the Ukrainian military in specific areas of training and professionalism. We hope that any changes to US Government policy enhances their security and democracy in the years to come," said Major General Michael Thompson, Adjutant General, Oklahoma National Guard.
