Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, made the following statement on the release of the Department of Defense financial audit. This audit has a lot of good news for the Pentagon and for the American taxpayer. The thorough examination did not find fraudulent use of taxpayer dollars and showed in countless areas across the Department how the DOD is working to strengthen transparency and demonstrate the importance and benefits of investing in our national defense. As expected in a first-ever audit of this magnitude, however, it did identify instances of inaccuraciesnotably in reconciling inventory and vouchers across multiple database systems. Further, it found that the Department has not adequately managed user access for IT systems. The cybersecurity implications of this failure are serious, and the DOD needs to take swift action to ensure that access controls are widely and forcefully implemented. I want to thank Secretary Mattis and Comptroller Norquist for their work on the audit, and I look forward to having frank and productive conversations with them on how we can implement some of the recommendations and address the inaccuracies going forward to ensure the highest level of accountability to the taxpayer. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
