The Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Reauthorization Act of 2019 would reauthorize the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act and streamline the programs that the federal government provides to help states combat child abuse and neglect without adding excessive burdensome regulations on the states. The reauthorization measure would also provide funding for research into the causes of child abuse and neglect and potential ways to prevent it. The Adoption Opportunities Act of 2019 would provide support for the adoption of children with special needs or other characteristics that can make them particularly difficult to adopt. Our children are the message we send to a future we'll never see, and we must look after our most vulnerable and care for their needs, said Isakson. Each of these measures has been carefully crafted to ensure we're able to help protect children. We are doing all we can to provide states with the support they need to combat child abuse and neglect and encourage the adoption of children who are particularly vulnerable. I hope we can move quickly on this important legislation. We can all agree that keeping our children safe should be one of our country's top priorities, said Jones. We need to continue to work to strengthen our child protection system and to provide resources to prevent child neglect and abuse before it happens and reduce barriers to adoption so that children in need can find loving, permanent homes. I want to thank Senator Isakson for leading this effort to make our country a safer place for all children to live.
