I also look forward to once again establishing our national security as a top priority. I’m humbled that voters in Georgia also chose to re-elect me as your United States senator, and I look forward to continuing my work to get the best results for Georgia and America. This Week in the Senate As the Senate held leadership elections in preparation for the 115th Congress, I worked on the unanimous passage of legislation that will benefit our nation’s veterans. The Senate passed the No Veterans Crisis Line Call Should Go Unanswered Act, which requires leadership at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide more information to Congress on its efforts to address the crisis of veteran suicide, including a plan to ensure that all calls, texts and emails from veterans in need are answered. This bill, passed by the Senate on Wednesday, previously cleared the U.S. House of Representatives on Sept. 27, 2016, and will now go to the president’s desk for his signature. The Senate also passed the Veterans Mobility Safety Act of 2016 on Thursday to create standards to ensure the quality and safety of automobiles for disabled veterans.  Above: Here I am with Lee Crawley Norton, a high school junior from St. Simons Island, Ga., who will participate in the United States Senate Page program in Washington, D.C. In Case You Missed It  What’s On Tap? I look forward to being in Georgia next week for a state work period and to celebrate Thanksgiving. Yesterday, the Senate passed a resolution designating the Sunday after Thanksgiving as “Drive Safer Sunday.” I introduce this resolution each year with the hope that drivers will slow down and spend a little extra time if necessary to reach their destination safely especially during the holiday season. As we take time to give thanks, let us remember all of the men and women serving our nation both at home and abroad. Additionally, if you or your loved ones are traveling next week, please remember to be extra cautious, as the Sunday after Thanksgiving is the heaviest day for traffic. I want to thank all of the first responders, medical professionals and all those who spend the holidays serving their communities. Dianne and I wish you a blessed and happy Thanksgiving! Sincerely, Johnny Isakson 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
