The House is expected to pass the Restoring Americans Health Care Freedom Reconciliation Act next week, after which it will head to the presidents desk, meaning that the president himself will have to answer for Obamacares failures for the first time since this law was passed nearly six years ago. Obamacare came with a promise of lower-cost health care and better benefits. What the American people were promised versus what they received are two completely different realities. Earlier in the week, I spoke on the Senate floor to highlight the plight of Georgia families facing higher taxes, higher premiums, higher deductibles and reduced health care coverage because of Obamacare. It is time the American people got real health care reform -- better coverage, but lower cost -- the good old-fashioned way, through choice and competition in a private system where your health providers work for you, not for Washington bureaucrats. In addition to repealing Obamacare, the Restoring Americans Health Care Freedom Reconciliation Act upholds the dignity of human life by taking away federal government funding for Planned Parenthood and redirecting these funds to health clinics that provide women with primary care and preventive health services. I continue to believe that taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize an organization that engages in the abhorrent practices that have been exposed at Planned Parenthood. Paving the Road Ahead Yesterday, the Senate passed The Fixing Americas Surface Transportation Act, a long-term highway bill that funds Georgias critical highway and infrastructure projects. This legislation is a victory for commuters, businesses and road builders because it finally provides much-needed certainty for state and local transportation projects. This legislation: Provides a fiscally responsible solution that puts into place sensible, long-term plans to give federal infrastructure projects stability without adding to our debt; Includes $8 billion in federal funds for Georgia over the next five years; and Allows Georgia to plan its construction projects for the next five years with a focus on innovation to improve the state transportation network. Next week, the Senate is expected to take up the Elementary and Secondary Education Act as well as funding for the federal government in fiscal year 2016.
