U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine praised Senate passage of a bill to rename a Charlottesville post office as the Captain Humayun Khan Post Office. U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan, a graduate of the University of Virginia, was born on September 9, 1976, and died on June 8, 2004, while in service to his country during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was killed by an improvised explosive device outside of his base in Baqubah, Iraq.His efforts that morning saved the lives of more than one hundred soldiers. It's hard to encapsulate the importance of Captain Khan's heroic efforts, but we hope that this gesture honors his memory and service to the nation, for which we are forever grateful, the Senators said. We hope that President Trump will quickly sign this bill into law. The United States Postal Service (USPS) facility is located at 180 McCormick Road in Charlottesville, Virginia. The bill, introduced by Congressman Tom Garrett, cleared the House unanimously on November 29th and will now head to President Trump's desk for his signature.
