U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine today announced that the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority will receive a $2.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funding made available by HUDs Jobs Plus Program will help Norfolk public housing residents find employment by providing tools and resources that will assist them in gaining job skills and increasing their earned income. These funds will allow the housing authority to connect low-income residents with employment, education, counseling and financial literacy services to help them get and keep good-paying jobs, said Warner. Empowering public housing residents with the tools and skills they need to reduce their dependence on public assistance and help them become financially independent will strengthen Norfolk for the long term. Todays announcement is great news for taxpayers, residents, employers, and the entire community. This funding will equip the Norfolk community with important resources to help families succeed in todays workforce.
