Star Certification is awarded to exemplary worksites with comprehensive, successful safety, and health management systems. “Facilities like Casco Bay Energy are a critical component of America’s energy infrastructure, helping to provide a reliable source of electricity for people across Maine and New England,” Senator King said. “That's why I am so proud to join with officials from OSHA to congratulate the folks here today on this well-deserved Star Certification safety award, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication that is put in here every day to provide a safe work place and provide the energy that Mainers need to live their lives.” Following the award ceremony, Senator King toured Casco Bay Energy’s facility and met with company executives to discuss the need for greater natural gas pipeline infrastructure and energy grid stability and security. Senator King has called on the Obama Administration to help coordinate federal and state efforts to expand natural gas pipeline infrastructure throughout New England, and he has also introduced legislation that would protect the energy grid from cyber-attacks. “At a time of increased cyber-threats, it is critical that we do everything we can to safeguard our critical energy infrastructure,” Senator King said. “Today’s tour was an important part of an ongoing conversation about the challenges facilities like Casco Bay Energy face and how we can help them in keeping our grid secure and affordable.” Casco Bay Energy, a subsidiary of Dynegy, is a natural gas power production facility located in Veazie.
