Senator King, along with the volunteers, helped unload a bus filled with donated food that will be distributed through Preble Street’s three soup kitchens – Preble Street Resource Center, Teen Center, and Florence House – to help feed hungry Mainers during the holiday season. “The spirit of community and generosity of heart I witnessed today is yet another example of why Maine is such a special place,” Senator King said. “Hundreds of people gave selflessly of their time, energy, and money to help those in need, and the donations collected today are going to make a big difference in the lives of so many families during this holiday season. I am grateful to have been a part of such a wonderful experience, but I am even more thankful to live in a state where people are always willing to lend a helping hand.” The annual food drive, sponsored by Rewind 100.9’s Chuck Igo, is the largest in Maine, connecting with schools in Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough to collect non-perishable food items and cash donations.
