King, Jr. | K000383 | www.king.senate.gov | angusking | https://www.king.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/table | scraper | Washington, D.C. – The Senate unanimously passed a resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King designating Saturday, December 16, 2023 as “Wreaths Across America Day.” The annual event honors our nation’s fallen heroes with commemorative Maine-made balsam wreaths laid by thousands of volunteers across the globe, including by a convoy that travels from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. “Wreaths Across America honors the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces,” said Senators Collins and King. “The longevity and growth of this Maine-led tradition is a testament to our deeply rooted gratitude for our nation’s servicemembers, and the selfless dedication of all who make it possible each year.” “International Paper is proud to be a partner and supporter of Wreaths Across America. This day is an important tradition to commemorate our fallen heroes, and we are honored to be a part of this special day,” said Dr. Alissa Campbell Shaw, Senior Manager, Global Corporate Social Responsibility & Community Engagement, and Executive Director of the IP Foundation at International Paper, which operates a plant in Auburn. Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 2,200 locations across the United States and abroad. In 2022, approximately 2.5 million wreaths were laid, including more than 150,000 at Arlington National Cemetery. Each wreath is crafted in Maine.
