Leahy spoke with Secretary of State Kerry about the agreement on Wednesday: This announcement from the world's two largest economies and the two largest greenhouse gas emitters is the kind of leadership and cooperation that is needed to protect the planet and its people from the worst impacts of climate change. Though these targets are ambitious, they are also achievable when we tap our technological and manufacturing expertise that will drive the next generation of green jobs here in America that can cut pollution and avert the worst dangers of climate change. I hope that last this breakthrough will drive progress at next month's climate summit in Peru and spur positive action by other nations, and overall, leading up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations in December 2015 in Paris.
