The CCDBG serves as the primary federal grant program providing child care assistance for low-income families and child care initiatives. Vermont uses the block grants to assist low-income families gain access to quality child care and after school programs. It is promising to see such strong bipartisan support behind reauthorization of the Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Act. Congress has been unable to authorize a child care spending bill for nearly two decades, and I hope that today's action results in bipartisan momentum in support these critical human service programs. I am encouraged by the emphasis this reauthorization places on safe, high quality care, by implementing new safety requirements for day care providers so that families can remain confident that their child is able to succeed in a dependable environment.
