U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $4,178,254 for West Virginia through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Funding comes through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and will improve the ability of West Virginia's health care system to respond to emergencies, as well as support substance abuse treatment services for pregnant and postpartum women and their children. It is important for West Virginia to have a resilient health care system that is able to provide services in both urgent and chronic cases, Senator Capito said. The opioid epidemic, in particular, is a public health emergency that requires our continued attention, and I am excited to see funding go to Marshall University to support treatment services for families impacted by substance abuse. I will continue working through the appropriations process and other efforts to strengthen the availability of health care services in West Virginia. I'm pleased to see this funding for our healthcare system in West Virginia. These resources will support our ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic, specifically supporting programs that provide treatment for mothers and children. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue fighting for investments in our healthcare system, Senator Manchin said. Individual awards listed below: $3,654,254 to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources through CDC. $524,000 to Marshall University through SAMHSA. # # # Print Email Tweet Next Article Previous Article 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
