It is unconscionable that we would saddle our children with even more debt, while cutting funds vital to West Virginia’s seniors. Passing this budget on a strict party line vote will prevent us from passing tax reform that will benefit the middle class. West Virginians elected me to represent their interests in the Senate, and passing the budget and tax reform this way effectively silences West Virginia’s voice. A balanced, responsible budget is essential to our state’s success and it should be negotiated in a bipartisan, inclusive way.  “During my time in the Senate, I have insisted that we pass sensible budgets that take a balanced approach to reducing our national debt and protecting the programs many West Virginians depend on every day. I have also insisted that we operate within the rules the Founders intended – working together in a bipartisan way to do what’s right for our country. This budget fails both tests.” ### Print Email Tweet Next Article Previous Article 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
