As part of Microsofts first-ever global Skype-a-Thon, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) answered questions from Ritchie County High School students through Skype, a popular videoconferencing website. The students asked Senator Manchin questions on a variety of current policy issues. Senator Manchin has used Skype to talk with students or virtually attend events throughout West Virginia about 70 times since taking office. The videoconferencing website has served as an important tool in Senator Manchins ability to connect with students and West Virginians while in Washington, D.C. Our students are West Virginias future leaders, and I truly enjoyed speaking with Ritchie County High School students to answer their questions, Senator Manchin said. My weekly Skype sessions with students allow me to hear the thoughts and concerns of our states youngest generation while Im in Washington and are something I always look forward to. Today, I urge all West Virginia classrooms to participate in the global Skype-a-Thon to get students virtually out of the classroom to meet new people and learn about different cultures from around the world. Thank you to the students and staff of Ritchie County High School for talking with me. I look forward to our next virtual visit and continuing my weekly sessions with students from across the Mountain State. Senator Manchin participates in weekly Skype sessions with West Virginia schools and answers students questions.
