"As the only institution in the country to offer a bachelor’s, master’s, as well as a doctoral degrees in forensic science, West Virginia University continues to advance cutting edge forensic science research,” Senator Manchin said. "These grants are wonderful news for WVU and the entire state. I applaud the University for their dedication to forensic science research throughout the years.” “West Virginia University is a source of great pride for our state, and I am so glad this funding will help support the critical forensic science research taking place there,” said Senator Capito. “This research has the potential to lead to breakthroughs that will save lives and curb crime.” Individual awards are listed below: $213,735 – West Virginia University Research Cooperation: Funding will support research to better discern how examiners interpret the pattern recognition process of footwear comparison from start to finish. For more information click here. $49,977 – West Virginia University: Funding will support research to evaluate the toxicity of confirmed pyrolytic products produced from the smoking process of selected representative synthetic cannabinoids.
