U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today issued the following statement on the passing of Staff Sergeant Ryan Hammond, the Marshall County native who died in the Thursday crash of a U.S. Air Force C-130 in Afghanistan. Gayle and I join all West Virginians in praying for Ryan Hammonds family and friends in the wake of this awful tragedy. West Virginia and the United States lost a brave airman whose dedicated and courageous service to this country will never be forgotten. Our hearts are broken from this devastating tragedy, and we are again reminded of the risks our service members face while protecting our country each and every day. We ask all West Virginians to join us in keeping Ryans family and friends in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. ### Print Email Tweet Next Article Previous Article | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
