U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) today introduced a resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to stop the Administration from imposing its anti-coal regulation on new coal-fired plants. I have vowed to do everything I can to fight to protect the people and the communities of West Virginia, which have been absolutely devastated by this Administrations overreaching rules on the coal industry, Senator Manchin said. Dozens of power plants have already been forced to shut their doors, thousands of West Virginia coal miners have lost their jobs and are now struggling to make ends meet and our families and businesses are now facing electricity bills that are through the roof. This Congressional Review Act Resolution of Disapproval is just another battle I am proud to lead against the EPA's demonization of coal. The Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) power plan regulations were published in the Federal Register on Friday. A CRA provides Congress the ability to eliminate onerous regulations through an expedited procedure for consideration in the Senate. To view the resolution, please click here.
